Celebrity Cruises Debuts New Shore Excursions in Galapagos
Celebrity Xpedition

(1:10 p.m. EDT) -- Celebrity Cruises is offering two new shore excursions for passengers onboard the Galapagos-based Celebrity Xpedition.

The new excursions are aimed at giving passengers cultural immersion and conservation experiences during the ship's seven- to 15-night cruises through the Galapagos archipelago.

An "Authentic Dining in the Highlands" excursion takes passengers to a family farm on the island of Santa Cruz for a meal with local residents. It's part of the line's increased collaboration with Galapagos farmers and fishermen for its onboard menus, which include Ecuadorian ceviche, roasted fish and desserts such as tres leches.

Also on Santa Cruz, the "Scalesia Reforestation Project" familiarizes passengers with some of the island's ecological concerns, allowing participants to join in with a project that aims to plant 5,000 Scalesia trees -- endemic to the Galapagos, the trees have lost much of their native habitat in the island chain -- in partnership with the Galapagos National Park.

In addition to the new excursions, the line is celebrating its 10-year anniversary in the island chain with a commemorative book made up of memories from past guests onboard Celebrity's Galapagos cruises, as well as general information about the unique environment and community of the Galapagos.
