Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship to Homeport in Australia

(11:53 a.m. EDT) -- Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas will call Brisbane, Australia, home for a five-month season spanning 2015 and 2016.

The recently refurbished, 1,832-passenger ship will join Radiance of the Seas, Voyager of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas Down Under.

According to the cruise line, the addition of Legend of the Seas will meet the growing demand from Australian and international guests wishing to cruise to Queensland and the South Pacific.

Legend of the Seas, which typically sails Canada, Caribbean, European and Panama Canal cruises, will call on the Australian ports of Cairns and Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays. At 69,130 tons, it will be one of the largest cruise ships to navigate the Brisbane River and dock at Brisbane's Portside Wharf.

In February 2013, the ship underwent a refurbishment that introduced a number of new dining venues, cabin upgrades, an outdoor movie screen and more.

This latest move comes just weeks after Royal Caribbean announced Quantum of the Seas, which debuts November 2014, will sail year-round from Shanghai beginning May 2015.
