In a case of dueling celebrity-chef-restaurants-on-newbuilds announcements Crystal weighs in today -- following Cunard’s news that Olives’ Todd English would create an eatery on the Queen Mary 2 -- with a tantalizing tidbit about its much-awaited new ship. Crystal Serenity, the line’s third vessel, will team up with Nobuyuki "Nobu" Matsuhisa, of the acclaimed Nobu restaurant (among 14 that he owns) in Beverly Hills. Matsuhisa will develop menus (and train chefs) for Serenity’s “Sushi Bar” and will also create dishes for “Silk Road,” the ship’s Asian restaurant.
The chef is known for his distinctive style, which blends classical Japanese foods with influences from South America and Europe. In addition to the Beverly Hills restaurant, Matsuhisa operates others in New York, London, Paris, Milan, Tokyo, Miami Beach, Aspen, and Las Vegas.
