Original Supermodel Twiggy to Christen River Cruise Ships
Twiggy (11:45 a.m. EST) -- A British fashion icon has been named godmother to two river ships launching in April.

Lesley Lawson -- known better by the nickname Twiggy -- will christen the first two ships of the fledgling Emerald Waterways fleet, Emerald Sky and Emerald Star, at a ceremony in Amsterdam on April 9, 2014.

Twiggy was one of the first international supermodels, coming to prominence in London during the so-called 'Swinging Sixties,' and has been a successful actress and singer as well as releasing her own fashion collection. She is also godmother to the ocean-going cruise ship Seabourn Sojourn.

A statement from Emerald Waterways said: " Think ‘Twiggy' and words like iconic, trendsetter, chic and stylish spring to mind – the exact words we had in mind when we carefully sculpted our ships. So there really was no one better to appoint as Godmother of our revolutionary vessels, than the world's first supermodel who set the benchmark for those who followed."

The most innovative new bit of design planned for the twin ships is a dual-purpose area at the aft of the ship that transforms from an indoor, heated pool with retractable roof during the day to a cinema at night. And although Uniworld's S.S. Antoinette offers separate pool and cinema facilities, the reconfigurable room on Emerald's ships is a new-to-river feature.
