Carnival Cruise Ship Gets Multimillion-Dollar Makeover

March 4, 2014
Celebrity Constellation (1:34 p.m. EST) -- Carnival Cruise Lines' Carnival Legend returned to its Tampa homeport with a bevy of new onboard attractions, including a WaterWorks aqua park, the RedFrog Pub and a full-service sushi restaurant. All were added during a multimillion-dollar refurbishment in Freeport.

The new WaterWorks features a 214-foot-long twister slide, dual mini-racing slides, a children's spray park and the Green Thunder waterslide -- a 187-foot-long slide with a stomach churning 34-foot-long drop that propels riders up to 25 miles per hour.

Also new to the ship are the line's popular RedFrog Pub, Cherry on Top confections and novelty shop, and Bonsai Sushi, a full-service sushi restaurant that serves sushi, sashimi and rolls, along with popular beers and cocktails from Asia.

New entertainment options include Playlist Productions big stage shows and "Hasbro, The Game Show," an interactive passenger experience.

A variety of additional enhancements, including upgraded swimming pools and gym equipment, along with new carpeting, tile work and wall coverings, were also completed during the two-week-long dry dock.

Carnival Legend will sail seven-night Caribbean cruises from Tampa through August 17, before embarking on two repositioning cruises that will take the ship to Sydney. There, it will sail a seasonal program of eight- to 12-night cruises to New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji.
