(1:09 p.m. EST) -- Passengers onboard Celebrity Constellation are getting a lot more time in Key West than they originally planned for due to problems with a gas turbine engine. The delay also forced a change in the ship's itinerary, with a scheduled call to Cozumel being nixed.
"Yesterday, December 15, Celebrity Constellation became aware of a technical issue with one of its gas turbine engines," Cynthia Martinez, director of global corporate communications for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., told Cruise Critic. "Celebrity Cruises made arrangements to replace the necessary component. Regrettably, the installation work has required more time than originally anticipated."
Passengers were allowed off the ship last night to experience Key West nightlife, though they had to be back onboard by midnight. All Key West excursions are being offered today, as well.
Constellation will depart Key West this evening at 10 p.m. Instead of the originally scheduled call on Cozumel tomorrow the ship will remain at sea. Replacing Cozumel will be a full day stop in Nassau, the Bahamas, on December 18.
