Canyon Ranch Update
Famed spa resort Canyon Ranch is moving ahead with its health-farm-at-sea project. The company, which has signed a letter of intent to build two ships at Kvaerner Masa Yards in Finland, hopes the first vessel will enter service in 2004, said Gary Milner, director of new project development for Canyon Ranch. "We're not positioning this as a luxury cruise product, we're positioning it as an ocean-going health resort," he said. "Among the highlights revealed by Milner: The 37,000-ton, 360-passenger ship will have a crew-to-guest ratio exceeding 1:1. The spa will encompass 100,000 square feet. And the smallest guest suite will be no less than a whopping 468 square feet. "Price will equal or exceed what we have achieved at our land-based resorts," Milner said. Which means it won't be cheap.
