| Cunard Adds Celebrity Chef |
Cunard Line is adding a little ooh-la-la to its traditional British menus
with the hiring of French celebrity chef Daniel Boulud, owner and operator
of the famed Daniel restaurant in New York. Boulud will design signature
menus for each restaurant on each of Cunard's four ships, which will be
available in addition to the line's usual classic cuisine. Boulud said his
cruise menus will be primarily French American but with creative touches and
fresh regional ingredients highlighted when goods are available in foreign
ports. Cunard operates the Queen Elizabeth 2 and the Caronia; the
150,000-ton oceanliner Queen Mary 2 and an 85,000-ton ship are under
construction.
Boulud's Daniel has garnered a long list of accolades during its 10-year history, including four stars from the New York Times last year. It was named "One of the Top 50 Restaurants in America" by Gourmet magazine in October and received a "2001 Best Award of Excellence" from Wine Spectator in November.
