Update: Storm Necessitates Veendam Departure From Bermuda a Day Early
(June 28, 3 p.m. EDT) -- Veendam will depart Bermuda a day early due to the remnants of Tropical Depression Debby, located 300 miles west of Bermuda, Holland America Line told Cruise Critic.

Cruise Critic was first alerted to the possibility of an itinerary change earlier today when member memphis jake e-mailed us from Veendam.

"This morning before a packed house aboard the Holland America Lines MS Veendam, Captain van der Hoeven gave a Powerpoint presentation detailing the probable impacts Post Tropical Depression Debby is going to have on the originally scheduled departure of the ship from Port Hamilton, Bermuda," he wrote.

Though the ship was scheduled to depart Friday, June 29, at 2 p.m., all passengers were told to be back onboard by 5:30 p.m. today.

A Holland America Line spokesman confirmed that Veendam will indeed leave Bermuda today at 6 p.m. and head for New York City.
