Crew Member Spends Night at Sea

March 6, 2002
A crew member on Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Norway spent a night at sea -- literally. The 24-year old (female, from Romania) employee was reported missing Monday night at about 10:30 p.m. while the ship was heading from Miami to St. Maarten. Once aware she was missing, Norway’s captain, in conjunction with the help of the U.S. Coast Guard, located the crew member -- just north of the Turks and Caicos Islands. She had treaded water for some 12 hours.

While the company offered no information on the health and well-being of the overboard staffer, wire reports -- along with on-the-Norway dispatches from cruise travelers -- say that she was in remarkably good condition, and was resting in the ship’s infirmary until she could be treated at a St. Thomas hospital.
