Slideshow: Oceania Cruises Officially Welcomes Riviera to the Fleet

May 11, 2012
(3:15 p.m. EDT) -- On a picture-perfect day in Barcelona, Oceania Cruises' Riviera was christened in a joyful, sometimes tearful ceremony that culminated in the successful smashing of the customary Champagne bottle on the first try.

The seaside ceremony that welcomed the 1,250-passenger ship was one of the industry's best and we were thinking: Whether or not you're an Oceania aficionado, how many cruise travelers ever get to see a christening live and in person? Since this one was a textbook case on how to launch a ship, we're going to take you through it.

And if you have been to a christening, we want to hear from you: Tell us which ship you saw named and what you remember best from the event.
