| P&O's Adonia Headed to Dry Dock, Sparking Last-Minute Cruise Cancellation |
(12:15 p.m. EDT) -- P&O Cruises' 710-passenger Adonia is unexpectedly heading to dry dock, resulting in the last-minute cancellation of the ship's January 3, 2012 sailing.
Cruise Critic member Time waster posted the news on our forums, and the line confirmed in a statement that it is temporarily pulling the adult-only ship from service to perform "essential maintenance work." P&O declined to supply additional details on the nature of the repairs. The cancelled cruise is a 10-night Western Mediterranean sailing from Naples to Southampton.
According to the statement, the line has contacted impacted passengers and provided a full refund as well as offering a credit toward a future cruise worth 25 percent of the value of the cancelled cruise.
Upon concluding its current Mediterranean sailing in Naples on January 3, Adonia will head to a shipyard in Falmouth on England's Cornwall Peninsula. Adonia's next scheduled voyage, a (sold out) 87-night South America sojourn embarking from Southampton January 13, 2012, remains on schedule.
