Update: Carnival Splendor Reverts to Original Itinerary as Tropical Storm Beatriz Fizzles
Update, 8 a.m. EDT: According to Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen, "Tropical Storm Beatriz has taken an unexpected turn to the south and the system is dissipating. Therefore, Carnival Splendor will now proceed as originally planned and call at Cabo San Lucas on Wednesday."

(June 21, 5:25 p.m. EDT) -- Tropical Storm Beatriz, the second named storm in the 2011 Pacific Hurricane Season, has prompted Carnival to cancel Splendor's Wednesday visit to Cabo San Lucas.

According to the National Hurricane Center's 5 p.m. EDT update, Beatriz is located 110 miles south of Puerto Vallarta, and is moving west at 12 mph. Maximum sustained are at 60 miles per hour, but weakening is expected in the next 48 hours.

Cruise Ship Itinerary Changes

Instead of calling in Cabo San Lucas on Wednesday as originally planned, Carnival Splendor will spend the day at sea. The remainder of the itinerary, which includes a visit to Puerto Vallarta on Thursday, and sea days on Friday and Saturday, remains intact. The ship concludes the cruise in Los Angeles on Sunday.
