| Star Princess Sampler Cruises |
In what could become a common new “inaugural” promotion, Princess is offering shorter-than-a-week “sampler” cruises when it unveils its new Star Princess. There will be two mini-voyages on Star Princess, which debuts in March; the first is a two-day Cruise to Nowhere (March 10) while the second is a three-day Mexican voyage (March 13).
This kind of introduction -- a far cry from days of yore when unveiling new ships was an unusual and precious event -- reflects today’s environment, in the case of industry overbuilding (new ships aren’t a rarity anymore). As well, in light of many travelers’ post-September 11 reluctance to travel, this type of special sampler appeals to both newcomers and veterans alike, particularly those in drive-in markets such as Los Angeles.
