| American West Adds New Ship |
| American West Steamboat Company, a Portland-based one-sternwheeler cruise line, will double its fleet with the addition of a second vessel. The company just signed a contract for the new 236-passenger Empress of the North, a veritable sister to flagship Queen of the West. Empress is slated for a June 2003 launch and will sail Alaskan itineraries from a Seattle homeport during summer months, then repositioning to Portland -- Oregon (home of Queen of the West) for river-based voyages throughout the rest of the year.
