RCI Crew Member Attacked in Labadee
A Royal Caribbean crew member is on the mend after surviving a bloody attack while on a port call at the cruise line’s private beach in Labadee, Haiti. The staffer was a member of the cruise line’s on-beach staff and was the victim of an attempted burglary by the crew quarters. This being the last day of the cruise, a sailing on Explorer of the Seas that departed Miami on November 11, and the employee’s status quite too unstable for Medevac transport back to the states, the Captain chose to hurry back to Miami, arriving the night before disembarkation.

A cruise line spokeswoman says that the attempted crime occurred at a “remote site on the property to which guests have no access and that guests were never in danger.” The assailants have since been caught by Haitian Police and are in custody there. The cruise line staffer is still in a Miami hospital but is expected to be released by the end of this week.
