Holland America today confirms November 15, 2002 as the delivery date for Zuiderdam, the first in its Vista series of ships. On that schedule, which represents a 45-day deferment from the previously announced launch, Zuiderdam will make its maiden voyage on December 14 out of Ft. Lauderdale. The ship will sail seven day Caribbean itineraries.
The deferment was negotiated between the cruise line and Fincantieri, the Italian shipyard, and HAL says it is in discussion regarding future delivery dates. Kirk Lanterman, HAL's CEO, says the line "appreciated Fincantieri's cooperation in working with us to identify the best possible delivery date to meet our needs." Between the lines? In the wake of the travel industry slowdown, Holland America's going to spread out its new ship introductions as widely as possible until market conditions change.
