Live from Florida: Cruise Shipping Miami Convention 2009
Where's Cruise Critic? We're winging our way to Florida for Seatrade's Cruise Shipping Miami Convention (CSM for short)! The convention -- the largest annual cruise event, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year -- takes place March 16 through 19.
What's It All About? The convention features press conferences, informational seminars and a lively exhibition where nearly 1,000 companies and tourist boards present their latest and greatest. Throughout the week, we will be reporting on CSM highlights right here in Cruise Critic News, such as:
"Reveals" on hot, upcoming ships: Oasis of the Seas, Norwegian Epic, Queen Elizabeth
Annual State of the Industry address headlined by various cruise line executives
Panel discussions on topics ranging from the "mood of the market" to new excursion options
Notes from the tradeshow floor, and more!
What We're Hearing So Far: News is already trickling in. The U.K.'s Passenger Shipping Association announced at the convention this morning another record year for the U.K. cruise industry with nearly 1.5 million passengers taking a cruise in 2008 – an 11 percent increase over 2007. Where are Brits cruising? The Mediterranean and Northern Europe took the biggest slices of the pie, with market shares of 43 and 18 percent, respectively.
