P&O Alters Aurora Itinerary for Maintenance

March 4, 2009
A damaged thrust bearing onboard P&O Cruises' Aurora has impacted the ship's maximum cruising speed -- and prompted the line to cancel two port calls this week.

According to an official statement from the cruise line, the damaged bearing poses no safety issues. However, because of the speed reduction, Aurora will skip its 5 March call at Wellington and 6 March call at Napier. The ship will undergo maintenance to the bearing during its scheduled call in Auckland on 7 March, after which the itinerary is expected to continue as scheduled.

The 76,000-ton, 2,000-passenger ship is currently sailing a 93-night world cruise, which departed Southampton on 11 January.
