Antarctica Cruise Update: Ocean Nova Repairs Completed Today
Repairs to Quark Expeditions' Ocean Nova, which was damaged when it ran aground in Antarctica on February 17, will be completed today in Ushuaia. The ship sails next for Europe, where it will cruise under a charter agreement with Denmark-based Albatross Travel.
The accident in Marguerite Bay resulted in four indentations in Ocean Nova's hull, which required three days to fix and forced the cancelation of the ship's last Antarctica cruise of the season. There were no injuries in the grounding, and all passengers booked on the canceled sailing were accommodated on another cruise line.
Ocean Nova is scheduled to return to Quark Expeditions later this year for a season of winter 2009-10 Antarctica cruises.
