|Celebrity Eclipse to Debut Two Months Early|
Following the announcement that Celebrity Equinox will debut ahead of schedule this summer, Celebrity has revealed that its third Solstice-class ship -- the 122,000-ton, 2,850-passenger Celebrity Eclipse -- will also launch early. Eclipse will begin cruising two months ahead of schedule, in April 2010. |
We already knew Celebrity Eclipse would sail ex-U.K. cruises, from Southampton, but Celebrity executives have now revealed more itinerary info. At an exclusive event in London, we learned that Celebrity Eclipse will sail five different itineraries including:
Short, four-night cruises to Cork in April and May 2010
11-night Canary Island cruises in May, June and October 2010
14-night Mediterranean cruises -- including an overnight call in Palma -- in July, August and September 2010
16-night Eastern Mediterranean cruises in September and October 2010
14-night Scandinavia and Russia cruises -- with overnight stops in St. Petersburg and Copenhagen -- in May, June and July 2010
Starting prices range from £449 per person for the Cork short cruise to £1,399 for the Scandinavia and Russia cruise. Celebrity Eclipse will go on sale on 3 March to Captain's Club cruisers before opening to the general public on 10 March.
The ship won't be anglicized, and the currency used onboard will be the U.S. dollar. However, as was done when sister line Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas was based in Southampton, Celebrity plans to make small tweaks to accommodate what's anticipated to be a mostly British clientele, including in-cabin tea and coffee makers.
As a sister ship to Celebrity Solstice and Equinox, Eclipse will boast all of the same interesting onboard features. These include The Lawn Club, a dedicated area on the top deck of the ship featuring real, growing grass, where passengers can play croquet or golf; the Hot Glass Show, the first glass blowing studio at sea; and large standard staterooms, 85 percent of which will be outfitted with verandahs.
Celebrity Eclipse will be the first new-build Celebrity Cruises has placed in the U.K (Equinox will launch in Southampton, but not sail from the port). Celebrity Constellation -- which currently sails Northern Europe cruises from Harwich -- will be relocated to sail from Amsterdam in 2010.
