Chantal Causes Port Changes

August 20, 2001
4 p.m., Monday -- While Chantal’s damage is minimal, the tropical storm -- her 65 m.p.h. still does not qualify as a hurricane -- is resulting in a sprinkling of altered ports for ships sailing this week in the western Caribbean. Passengers on Carnival’s Celebration, on a five-day voyage out of Galveston, get an extra sea day (the call to Calica is skipped) and stop in Veracruz (Mexico), instead of Cozumel. Sensation, which departed Sunday from Tampa for a seven day trip, is treating passengers to a day in Key West (in lieu of Grand Cayman) but is still planning to make a call at Playa del Carmen and Cozumel later this week. Celebrity’s Century, sailing weeklong itineraries out of Port Everglades, simply flipped its scheduled Western Caribbean ports...for the Eastern Caribbean.
