Grand Turk Cruise Pier Undamaged
Information is slowly coming in regarding the state of the cruise facility at Grand Turk after Hurricane Ike battered the island this weekend. However, a new report from Carnival's assessment team indicates that the situation may be better than we thought.

According to a Carnival spokesperson, the good news is that the cruise ship pier at Grand Turk appears to be undamaged. The bad news is that the Grand Turk Cruise Center facility has some roof and landscaping damage.

Although the cruise line does not know how much it will cost to repair the facility, it thinks repairs to the cruise port shouldn't take a lot of time. However, given the substantial damage to the rest of the island, it's unclear when repair work could start. The current outlook is that it will take Grand Turk quite some time to recover from the storm damage.

We'll keep you posted as additional information about the state of the port and the pace of repairs comes to light. In the meantime, Carnival and other lines with scheduled calls in Grand Turk are working to find alternate ports -- we'll let you know when itinerary changes are announced.
