According to the California-based line, the name change aligns its corporate name with a commonality that appears on its ship names. Because of the name of ships such as Amadagio and Amalegro, "people know us as the 'AMA' line," says Ana Figueroa, Director of Business Development, "so we thought it was time to shorten the name."
Beyond the appellation transformation, little else has changed. AMA Waterways still offers itineraries from nine to 23 nights, sailing the Danube, Rhine, Rhone, Saone Black Seas, and further afield to the Nile. Cruises are destination intensive, with a focus on cultural immersion (meeting locals, wine tasting). Onboard, passengers enjoy wine with dinner and free Wi-Fi in public areas.
