Paddington Bear has packed his battered, brown leather suitcase with extra jars of marmalade, donned his blue duffle coat and Wellington boots, and is making his way toward an Ocean Village cruise ship. The beloved children's book character will be found on Ocean Village and Ocean Village Two as of May 2008.
Paddington is the latest in a line of children's characters to take to the sea on British cruise ships -- both Noddy and Mr. Bump are fixtures onboard P&O Cruises' ships.
Paddington joins Bagpuss, another kids' favorite (he's a cloth cat), in Ocean Village's onboard children's club, Base Camp, in time for a summer season of cruising the Mediterranean. He'll greet fans, pose for photos and even join passengers for afternoon tea. The Ocean Village cruise line prides itself on its dedication to "imaginative, high-quality and family-friendly holidays."
Perhaps more exciting than a lovable bear on a ship is Ocean Village's kids-sail-free promotion. One or two children sharing a cabin with two paying adults can cruise for free on Paddington Bear's inaugural Caribbean cruises. Eligible sailings include 7- to 14-night voyages during winter 2008-2009, excluding holiday cruises. Bookings must be made by May 31, 2008.
Take advantage of this promotion and your kids will have one more thing in common with Paddington -- he took his first cruise for free when he stowed away on a ship sailing from Darkest Peru to England.
