| Wind Spirit Cruise Canceled for Repairs |
The December 8 sailing of Windstar's Wind Spirit has been canceled for unscheduled mechanical repairs. Because the area that needs attention is underwater (the hydraulics of the ship's variable pitch propeller), the ship needs to be pulled from service and dry-docked.
According to an official statement, Windstar is in the process of notifying guests of the cancellation. Those who were booked on the affected sailing -- a seven-night Caribbean cruise roundtrip from St. Thomas -- will be offered a full refund and a future cruise credit in the amount of 50 percent of the fare paid toward a new Windstar Cruises booking through December 31, 2008. Interline guests (airline employees) will be offered a full refund and a future cruise credit in the amount of $200 toward a new Windstar Cruises booking through December 31, 2008.
All pre-booked shore excursions will also be refunded.
Wind Spirit is expected to return to service in time for its next sailing, a weeklong Caribbean cruise departing St. Thomas on December 15.
