Victory Passenger Injured

June 15, 2001
Chalk this one up to the “not a good idea” cruise activity list: A passenger on Carnival’s Victory, sailing a four-day Canadian maritime voyage out of New York City, leaped from the deck 10 pool observatory area into the pool itself, which is on deck 9. The problem? It was late at night and the pool, which like others on the ship is closed in the evenings, had been drained and netted. The netting, fortunately, broke his fall and the passenger, said to be recovering, was attended by ship medical personnel before being transferred to a New York hospital by the U.S. Coast Guard.
