Royal Caribbean Pumps Up Costs With New Fuel Surcharge
Rising Fuel Costs Spark New Cruise Line Surcharges
Cruise Lines Add Fuel Surcharge
Update: MSC Cruises has announced that it, too, will implement a surcharge. The charge is $6 per person, per day, and applies only to new bookings made December 1, 2007, onward on departures after February 1, 2008. Voyages booked and under deposit by November 30, 2007, will not be affected. No surcharge will be levied on third and fourth passengers in a stateroom.
(November 20) -- Soft adventure cruise line Voyages of Discovery has kicked off Week Three of an ongoing rash of fuel surcharges.
The line has announced it will charge $10 per person, per night, on all bookings of Discovery from February 1 through April 26, 2008. No decision has been made regarding Summer 2008 itineraries.
Last week, we heard from lines including Majestic America Line, Windstar Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., Silversea, Oceania and Cruise West. The week before that, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Carnival Corporation were among those making announcements. One notable holdout: Disney.
