Silversea, which announced a "new guest" program whereby Silversea "virgins" can save up to $1,000 per couple, is just a hair in front of a new trend. While luxury lines like Silversea, along with Crystal and Radisson Seven Seas, enjoy fantastic repeat-cruiser percentages, all are expanding their fleets – just like the big guys – and have to draw new passengers to their line – just like the mega-vessels.
This is the first promotion we've seen from a luxury line that is geared to first-timers (and available only on select sailings) but we anticipate more to come as these companies have their eye on converting suite-buyers on, for instance, Princess, Holland America and Celebrity to their fleets. Got a hankering for the heretofore unaffordable luxury cruise? Bide your time and watch for discounts. As more of the high end ships come on line – in addition to Silversea, Radisson Seven Seas and Crystal plan to introduce new vessels in the next two years – It may not be as costly as you think.
