Northwest Averts Strike

April 10, 2001
Good news for cruise passengers planning (and/or hoping) to fly Northwest Airlines this spring: the airline is the first of most of the heavy-hitters to reach an agreement, thereby averting a possible strike that could have begun May 11. Otherwise, the airline-labor situation is still a bit dicey: American, United and Delta are still in negotiations, and still entertain the possibility of a strike this spring. Our advice: if you are planning to fly on a labor-issue-plagued airline, request a paper ticket -- as opposed to an electronic one -- which is easier to transfer to other airlines should yours, at the last minute, call a strike.
