Solstice and Equinox Join Celebrity

February 16, 2006
Celebrity, sticking with its fondness for otherworldly ship monikers (Millennium, Galaxy, Infinity), announces today that its ship on order -- previously known as the first Solstice class vessel -- will be called, er, Celebrity Solstice. The new-build, the first since launch of the Millennium-class of vessels, will measure 118,000 tons, carry 2,850 passengers and represent a whole new style of ship for Celebrity.

Solstice is Celebrity's biggest yet -- and in fact puts that line's newest ships above other big ship lines, such as Costa, Carnival and Holland America (for more details on Celebrity Solstice check out our original news item). Celebrity Solstice is slated for a fall 2008 delivery.

In other news, Celebrity, which had an option agreement with shipyard Meyer Werft for a Solstice sibling, says it definitely will build that ship. And it's also come up with a name: Celebrity Equinox will arrive in the summer of 2009.
