Princess Cruises, which last year introduced the technology to allow travelers to book spa appointments on Sapphire Princess and Caribbean Princess prior to embarkation, has now expanded the capability to other ships in the fleet.
Passengers booked on trips on Diamond Princess and on Island Princess (beginning with the September 20 voyage) can plug in their name and booking number on the cruise line's Web site, and peruse the list of services (including massages, body treatments, facials, hair styling, manicures and pedicures) and their prices. They can view available times -- and then book an appointment.
Other ships that will be offering the online reservation service include Golden Princess (beginning with the voyage departing October 8), Grand Princess (October 29), Coral Princess (November 24) and Star Princess (December 11).
Princess' Lotus Spas are operated by the U.K.-based Steiner Leisure. Beyond the usual treatments, more exotic offerings include a lime and ginger salt glow, reincarnation facials and the wild strawberry back cleanse.
It should be noted that the cancellation policy remains the same whether you book online or onboard; with less than 24 hours notice, passengers will be responsible for 50 percent of the cost of their session.
