Franklin Gains; Headed Toward Bermuda?

July 23, 2005
(7:30 p.m.) -- Tropical Storm Franklin, which so far has just caused some rain squalls in the Bahamas, is still far enough out to sea that nobody, apparently, is concerned (even cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and Carnival, which regularly post hurricane-related updates, have taken down their "tropical updates").

In the meantime, the storm has indeed strengthened -- with sustained winds at 70 m.p.h. it's near category one status. But it's still more than 500 miles away from Bermuda and it's not clear, according to the National Hurricane Center, if Franklin will be a threat there.

So this weekend it's cruising-as-normal ... but of course we'll provide updates throughout the week as needed.
