In a nice boost for river cruisers bound for Europe, Avalon Waterways, the Globus-owned river cruise line, has launched MS Poetry, its second custom-designed new-build.
Features of the ship -- which mirror that of MS Artistry, the company's first new-build -- are relatively unusual to European river vessels, such as an onboard fitness facility, an outdoor whirlpool and a hair salon. Internet access is available. Staterooms are larger, on average, than those found on most European river operators; clocking in a 172 square ft. they feature twin beds that convert to a queen, color satellite television and mini-bar. Some 70 percent of staterooms come with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors (the remaining feature large picture windows). The ship has four junior suites, which measure 258 square ft.
Other distinguishing amenities include open seating at meals and complimentary servings of red and white wine at dinner.
The 176-passenger ship sails 15-night Amsterdam to Budapest itineraries.
