| HAL's Ryndam Rescues Three People, Cat Off Coast of Mexico |
Passengers sailing on Holland America's Ryndam last week witnessed the rescue of three people -- and a cat -- from a sailboat caught in rough seas off the coast of Mexico.
Ryndam received an early-morning distress call last Tuesday (January 4) from a sailing vessel that was taking on water and had run out of diesel, water and food. The three crew members of the vessel, Pagurus II, were exhausted and could no longer keep up with the influx of water, and had deviated off course. Within an hour of receiving the call, Ryndam spotted the sailboat. A tender crew was dispatched into the water, and safely brought back one female and two male survivors, plus the ship's cat.
With its newest passengers onboard, Ryndam continued onward to its scheduled call at Loreto, Mexico. | |
