An offhand quip by a Cunard executive in Australia that the QE2 would be redeployed on transpacific itineraries once Queen Mary 2 launches, was circulated via Reuters News Service, and has made the rumor circuit. Alas, it’s not true. Indeed, folks at Cunard are currently in early processes of considering how to divvy up the world’s oceans once the company has two liners in play. But, says Cunard spokesman Bruce Good, “we’ve not yet fixed what QE2’s itinerary will be. We have two ships uniquely qualified for long distance point-to-point itineraries and two-thirds of the world to play with. We’re considering all the oceans.”
Queen Mary 2 is scheduled to launch in late 2003/early 2004.
