Princess Hosts Festive Launch For Caribbean Princess

April 2, 2004
Caribbean Princess, Princess Cruises' new all-Caribbean, all-the-time vessel, is gearing up today at Ft. Lauderdale's Port Everglades for the beginning of inaugural festivities. The 113,000-ton, 3,100-passenger ship -- uniquely designed to evoke the Caribbean experience onboard as well as in port -- will be officially launched on Friday. Television actress Jill Whelan, who starred in "Love Boat" as Vicki Stubing, will handle godmothering duties.

Unusually, Whelan will also play a central role in today's pre-inaugural festivities. She will be married on the ship tonight; guests expected, according to Princess, include "Love Boat" co-stars Gavin MacLeod and Bernie Kopell.

Both tonight's wedding festivities and tomorrow's debut celebration will be broadcast live on Princess' Web site. The wedding is slated for 6 p.m. tonight. Saturday's naming ceremony will take place at 7 p.m.

Caribbean Princess will sail year-round Caribbean itineraries that alternate between eastern and western from its home port in Ft. Lauderdale.
