Cinque Terre was all that I hoped it would be. Charming and quintessential Italy. Lots of walking in the 2 small towns we actually visited, but well worth it.

In Genoa, we walked from the ship to the Genoa Principle train station a few blocks away and purchased train tickets to Vernazza for about $7 Euros each. The train ride took about an hour and a half with lots of stops. But once we got to Vernazza we were in the heart of the Cinque Terre with postcard perfect vistas of cliff side houses, restaurants and old ruins of long ago fortresses. It's a short walk to the port where we grabbed a water taxi to Monterosso after exploring the small town. In Monterosso we had a fabulous lunch of fresh mussels, lemon marinated local sardines and incredibly cold local white wine. The restaurant Pae Veciu was new and the owners and staff were very friendly. After exploring Monterosso, we took the train back to Genoa and the ship.
