Dating back to 200 B.C., Kohunlich is known as "the best kept secret in Mexico," and features the 8-feet tall Pyramid of the Masks.

Our Mayan guide, Luis, was great. The ruins featured the best preserved Mayan masks of all the ruins. I was able to climb several of these as they are lower than Lamarai.

We had an excellent guide. Excursion was a bit rushed- skipped parts of ruins due to time constraints. Beware of 2 hr bus ride to reach ruins. Ruins are small and unspectacular but you can at least climb up many of them. Buses are air-conditioned but beware that there are no bathrooms on them. When we reached the ruins, there was a huge line-up to use the washroom faciliies. Because the women's line up was twice as long as the men's, they kicked the men out of the men's room to allow the women to use the men's room and told the men to use the bushes?!? Women-those porcelin things on the wall with water in them are not sinks.

Very good tour. Two hours to get there, rushed 2 hour tour followed by another 2 hour trip. The guide was great!

The Khunlich Mayan Ruins in Costa Maya was my favorite. I would recommend it to anyone going to that port. The site is a good example of Maya architecture and has many interesting features.

Fantastic tour and access to well-preserved Mayan Ruins. Our University of Mexico faculty guide was the consummate professor and clearly explained his extensive knowledge of the ruins and made the trip a fantastic experience. My mom-in-law was using a walker, but the site facilities were sufficient for her to get fairly close to all of the ruins, but not all of them--she was especially not able to make her way up to the main temple, but she didn't mind. Our tour guide made special efforts to answer her questions and help her learn as much as she wanted to learn about the history of the site.
