We took the walking tour and tour of the family owned shop (one of the last few who do the work by hand) ... great experience! The town and pottery are beautiful.

Whilst it was interesting to see the Pottery factory we just wasted time in the township of Delft then raced through The Hague.

There is much to see in Delft of historical interest. For lovers of porcelain and tiles it is famous for the blue and white painted ware and there are several factories that continue to produce these pieces at a high quality level.

We took an afternoon tour after the cruise which included Delft, the Hague and Maurodam. The entire tour was interesting and fun although the Delft authentic pottery was much more expensive than the supposedly imitation Delft found in all the nonsanctioned shops everywhere else. The Hague has all the government buildings and embasseys which are beautiful and Maurodam has the major buidings and monuments in miniature where we wandered about having fun.

The town was worth it. The guide was not worth a penny. We were supposed to see a factory which turned out to be just a little Delft shop where they make Delft ware. We only found it because I expressed such disappointment the Viking person finally mentioned it to me. It was a wonderful little place and the other half of the group did go there and hear a talk. But, our guide insisted there was no factory and he led us to a delft shop that was less expensive probably because it was not completely hand painted, probably had been stamped or stenciled for part. Our group kept telling him, with the Viking person present that we were to see where Delft ware was made. He insisted we weren't and the Viking person never spoke up. Only after the tour did she tell me about the authentic shop. FIASCO.
