Visited the chocolate factory and learned some Mayan history. Enjoyed free samples of chocolate. Enjoyed some time in a local village shopping after learning about black coral, jade and silver. Also went to a tequila tasting with free samples of everything!!

We did the tequila tasting tour with the cacao tour. Both were extremely informative.

Of our tour with two stops, the Chocolate Factory was a disappointment. We had chosen the RC Island Overview and Mayan Ruins tour at 11:30, over the Bar Hop tour, because we wanted to see some ruins and get a handle on the island. About 11:45, driver Morita and tour guide Nico took us out on the road. The roads led us through the city streets and out to the countryside. We stopped at San Gervasio Ruins, and Nico gave a good walk and talk tour of the Mayan’s and the site’s history. We went out on the west side of the island and saw plenty of blue water and white sandy beaches. We then stopped at the Chocolate Factory which had free Wi-Fi. We arrived back at the terminal at 3:45. Again, the van’s AC was not doing much, so always sit up front as we did.

Kaokao Chocolate Factory - Very informative & interesting history on chocolate making. We ground chocolate beans & made our own chocolate to take home. Got to sample about a dozen flavors. Lots of fun for adults & kids!

We'd been to Cozumel before (SCUBA diving); so we chose a tour of the island with a taxi with whom we negotiated a price for 4 of us. The best part of the island excursion was a tour of a local tequila factory. The "taxista" also stopped to let us shop briefly before we returned to the ship.

Kaokao Chocolate factory - less of a factory than a small production kitchen with a really neat exhibit and presentation about how the chocolate is made. Lots of samples and very reasonably priced. However, I would not recommend to families with children under 10 as there is a lot of listening and very little experiential activities during the "tour."

kaokao chocolate factory tour Small factory with a great staff. The whole family enjoyed this one. After a lesson on the background of chocolate and cocoa beans we made our own chocolate and from start to finish. After our tour we also visited Mr. Sancho's on a pay as you go type of plan. We rented a cabana and swam for hours. Lunch was tasty - great guacamole!
