Frankly, booking an excursion with the ship was the only way to get off the boat in Panama, so we booked a little cruise and Gatun Locks excursion. The guide was excellent and the tour was fine. Seeing the ships go through the Canal was memorable.

It's a long time from when you leave the ship to when you get back on without much to do by the cruise terminal. Eat a good breakfast before you go. Transit day is a long day.

Gatun Locks are a MUST SEE experience but skip the Potobelo tour. Long bus ride to an old, filthy fort and a brief visit to the beautiful but also dirty church with the "black Christ" statue. We visited during Holy Week and there were a lot of Panamanians there to pray in front of this statue.
