Breakers Mansion, the 70-room Italian Renaissance-style villa built by the famous architect Richard Morris Hunt for Cornelius Vanderbilt II, is among them most visited in Newport.

I love all the Vanderbilt houses, and the Breakers is no exception. My only complaint on this stop was the tour operator allowed us too much time here and everyone was back near the bus with about 20 minutes left. When we asked if we could walk to the Marble House, the bus driver got nasty and said if we chose to walk to the next house he wouldn't take us back to the ship. Guess he was having a bad day....

Another magnificent mansion not to be missed. After the tour, we walked around town and walked to St. Mary Church where JFK and Jackie were married. Unfortunately, both the ground and the church were closed. We also walked to the Trinity Church where George Washington used to worship, which was just across from the pier.
We lined up over 45 minutes to take the tender back to ship. Princess staff offered no wet towel, no water while we wait. There were only two benches for people to sit on, and the line was mile long.

If you enjoy history & architecture, extremely interesting...GREAT audio-tour. Requires a LOT of walking (over an hour), if difficult for you, don't book!

We took the Cliff walk and Breakers combined tour.
We saw the mansion after the walk. I'd been here before in the 80s when the tour was given by a person rather than a recording. It's still a nice tour, and a very interesting window on the lifestyles at that time period.
My only regret is we did not disembark earlier because the schedule looked like we'd have some time to shop and look around in town after the tour and that was not the case.

Our last stop, Newport RI where we would tender in despite the rain. Yes, it was really really rainy, cold and windy however the tender crews did a fantastic job in getting us to Newport and the ship safely. Here we opted for the Vanderbilt Mansion tour and considering the weather we chose wisely. Our tour guide was great and a fun time was had by all.
