Wellington Lord of the Rings Walking Tour Excursion Reviews

Wellington Lord of the Rings Walking Tour cruise excursion
Overall Rating
Visit the location sites used for the gardens of Isengard, Rivendell and Lorhlorien. Some tours include the Stansborough weaving mill where the elfin cloaks were made. It's definitely a "precious" experience.

AFter a good experience at Hobbiton we booked on the WETA tour (Peter Jacksons studios). The cruise tour takes you to an unmarked factory unit where there is a gift shop, a tour and movie. We were extremely happy with what we saw there and teh gift shop heaps better than Hobbition. However we overheard a lady on our tour mention the WETA Cave, which is literally around the corner and the tour does not stop t here. My hubby and I got a cab back out there as we wanted to have a look around. They offered a similar tour, plus also a tour of the Thunderbirds set and had the same movie as they showed on the cruise tour.......even with cab fare taken into account, this would have been a far cheaper option. and to top it off this was by far the best Lord of the Rings gift shop.

BE CAREFUL OF THIS TOUR! Royal Caribbean's tour page showed people photographing Hobbit homes. The ad said that guests would be taken to film locations. What we got was a 2 mile walk in muck and mud of a public forest park. No Hobbit homes. We were taken to the backstage lot called The Cave where the film was made, but no tour! We could visit the sales area of Hobbit items, but no tour. Others from the ship paid for a taxi, paid the tour price and got a full stage lot tour. We were left holding the bag!

Good tour of filming sites with views of the city from a lookout. Good knowledge of the filming process/activities shown by the guides who were drawing on personal experience. Would have liked a more extensive look into the workings of the Weta Cave. Like most cruise company organised tours, perhaps a little expensive for what is delivered.
