Colon (Cristobal) City Tour cruise excursion
Overall Rating
Take a tour of fascinating Colón and experience the full variety of this beautiful port city. Prepare to be captivated as you are submerged in the authentic and rich Panamanian culture -- and make sure you don't miss one of the world's greatest feats of engineering -- the Panama Canal.

Panama city Tour was great although would probably have preferred free time in Panama City to do own thing rather than go with guide. Very nice place and enjoyed the trip. Be aware that where the ship docks in Puerto Colon looks extremely poor and dodgy and the surrounding area looks like Down Town Bronx - not safe to walk around and advised against this on the cruise. You really need to take an organized excursion when you dock in Panama. There is a shopping area opposite where the ship docks which is safe to go around, however beyond that is not safe and even the guide on our excursion warned us against walking beyond shopping area and advised not safe.

2 hours each way in a bus to get to get to the old city! The city if a work in progress. It was very hot, humid and raining. Many tours taking place & easy to miss your group.

The Gatun Locks were part of this tour and it was very interesting to see the boats moving through the locks. The tour of the old, new and colonial cities were very interesting.

Panama – Toured privately with Robtad’s. When we arrived Roberto, the owner, told me we would be with another guide which worried me a bit since I had read so much about him. He informed me that our guide, Edwin Miranda Gurro, would be better than him. Edwin was extremely knowledgeable and fun and we were extremely happy with him. A great day…Thanks to Carl for arranging our tour. Thankfully, we had just enough time to see a huge cargo ship approach the lock, watch the water level change and the gates open. Amazing. I really wasn’t thrilled about going to the locks initially, thinking it would be slow and boring…NOT. The rest of the tour to various spots in Panama City was also fun and amazing. We tried to stop for a local lunch enroute back to the ship. However, traffic was crazy due to upcoming holidays and a parade so the group voted to pass on lunch.

Took a bus across the county and visited Panama City. We stopped a couple times to take pictures and shop. This cruise is 5.5 hours and well worth the price of admission.

The old museum is only fair
There's really not a lot there
But guides insist one has to invest time.
The old colonial town is good
And the history understood
And there is no evidence of crime.

Nothing to see in Colon, definitely worth to take a tour to the jungle or Panama City... some of our friends took other tours and were not impressed though, most people said the railway tour was a huge disappointment.

Our tour included the best of Panama City, it was very good value for our money, definitely recommend.

Colon: not at all... very dirty and ugly; and shopping was pretty bad for a free port, we wanted to buy a Panasonic waterproof hybrid camera ($169 at Best Buy in the US); it was $399 in Colon, forget it!

We disembarked the cruise ship in the middle of Gatun Lake and were tendered to shore where we got on our mini bus for the drive to Old Panama City. The walking tour took us to the Old City, the Colonial City and to a museum. Our tour guide Javier spoke excellent English and kept the walking pace fast but slow enough for everyone to keep up. The Colonial part of the city was the most interesting and there was a short 20 minute time period for limited shopping

This was the best excursion we took. The guide was very entertaining and the visit to the Panama canal - altough crouded and way too short for my taste, was very interesting. Due to the 1.5 hour late start of the tour, we were running late but the guide made no attempt to cut our experience short and get us back. Of course the ship waited on us and other tours that got started late that day. However, the late start resulted in early dinner seatings being missed upon our return.

Found a guide off-ship. He drove us all around for $100. Took us over to Panama City. We stopped at the new observation site for the new widened locks being built on the Atlantic side. Very impressive. As usual, the guide was hard working and honest.

Went to Panama City. This is a 6.5 hour tour and the minivan the put you in is not comfortable for that long of a time. The tour was interesting but just too cramped on this size of a minivan. The need a bigger bus with a restroom on board.
