A motorcoach ride away from Kusadasi, the Ephesus Museum is home to some of the most extraordinary antiquities in the world. The famous Lady of Ephesus represents one of the most unique and special depictions of the Greek goddess Artemis known today.
Ephesus was the BEST guided tour I have ever taken! What an amazing and historical city! Do NOT take a tour bus booked from the city though! There were 15 of us on the bus and without our permission or even knowledge, on the way home he said he had a treat for us....and took us to a leather factory where we watched a fashion show (which was very cool actually) but then we were forced to exit throughout this store where the salespeople kept putting coats on us and trying to get us to buy leather goods!! We were all very upset at this. It took an hour for us to get out of there, and we really resented this forced stop that no one wanted. Other than that, we loved Kusadesi.
Good tour magnificent ruins. After the tour, after the tour evaluation forms were filled out and handed in, we were taken to a Turkish rug shop. We were taught the ins and outs of weaving a turkish rug, given turkish coffee, and put through what I liken to a time share presentation.
In the Cruise terminal building so you think they are genuine. But they are crooks. Take your money saying no hidden charges apart from entry fees. They rush you round the Ephesus main site in an hour in order to squeeze in factory visits (3 in all) Our English speaking (joke) Guide insisted on his buying our tickets in Euros even tho' they're priced in worthless Liras. He was creaming it. When he demanded more Euros for a bus parking fee we were on to him & refused. He threatened with police but we insisted upon return to port where we would meet with whoever. He gave in when we all closed ranks.
Ephasus was all we had to see at this port.(not the museum) We walked a mile through the remains of a city from 2000BC! (or was it 200? Anyway just facinating.
One last comment on excursions. I felt that all of the guides we had, though interesting, could have learned more facts by just reading on line about the places they took us. We could have done that too...before we left!
Kusadasi is how you get to Ephesus. Ephesus is great, although it was unbearably hot when we were there in June. And of course it is crowded.
Kusadasi itself doesn't have much going for it. You can seek out bargains in the market - however this is really and exercise in getting the price reduced from a clearly inflated level to something close to reasonable. If you enjoy buying used cars you can enjoy Kusadasi.
