Self tour by local taxi. We were approached on arrival by taxi driver and we wanted to go to Taormina. We paid $30per person for 7 of us to take us both ways and wait 3 hours. Being on deck 4 we were straight off the ship and on our way. We then added another stop at Savoca where they filmed the Godfather so total was $45 per person. Taormina was lovely, it had amazing street food and ...

Again an easy walk in from the ship. The main attraction is Taormina, but we decided to stay in Messina and explore. There’s not much to see to be honest. The cathedral is beautiful, and at 12 o’clock the bell tower comes to life.... statues move, and the sound of Ave Maria rings out across the square. Unfortunately, that’s the highlight of Messina. Otherwise it’s quite a dirty, dreary town with ...

Very easy walk to station to take a 1 hour train to Taormina and then a bus to the mountain top town of Taormina. It looks like you would want a old beautiful Italian town to look - it's gorgeous. Beautiful architecture, pretty shops, great views, lots of little restaurants and great ice cream. ...

Negotiated a private taxi to Taormina and had a blast. Why get squished on a bus when you can have a taxi all to yourselves for the same price? Found my wife's next Furla and enjoyed the people, food and views. A Can't Miss if you have never been there. Etna was covered in clouds that day, but we need to have another reason to go back. Great sail away here as well as Malta. ...
