The big draw to Split is Diocletan's Palace and the town around it. After Dubrovnik, I was underwhelmed with Split. Walking Diocletan's Palace without a guide is very possible, but they don't have any signage or brochures to make it a good learning experience. The top of the palace is really ruins and the town.
