Santorini was somewhere I had always wanted to see. It is very pretty but extremely crowded. We were charged outrageous prices to drink at a bar with a sea view. 20 euros for a beer and a fruit juice! To return to the dock there was a queue a mile long at the cable car station so we walked down the cliff path. It took 40 min and was hot and slippery. We could have gone by donkey but I am sorry for ...

What an incredible island. Suggest Tony's Car Rental and doing it yourself - it's an easy place to drive, and we went all over the island - north (beautiful Oia), then south (the Akrotiri archaeological site, red beach and lunch) and east (black beaches) as well as the capital, Fira. Not my favourite location. The set down point for tenders is at the bottom of a steep cliff, only ways up are walking up hundreds of steps, by cable car or by donkey. Took another alternative, boat trip to Oia port, bus to town and return to Chora. Still had to get down to the tender, huge queues for the cable cars, so walked down, avoiding the literally hundreds of donkeys! Much too busy when ...
