When the weather is nice this is a wonderful place to visit on foot. Within walking distance is a vibrant tourist district along the Piers and the surrounding few blocks that head inland. When we got off the ship planning to catch a trolley, there was a free shuttle service to Pier 39 which has a lot of restaurants, eateries and other entertainment.
